Domingo,

Domingo,
We invite you to take 6 minutes of your time to watch something profoundly beautiful.

In this new short film Rise: From One Island to Another, two island poets connect their realities through poetry and stunning landscapes.
Whilst Aka Niviâna’s home in Kalaallit Nunaat, Greenland, is threatened by the melting ice, Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner’s in the Pacific is being impacted by the rising sea levels that melting ice produces.
“The Marshall Islands is on the front lines. We’re one of the first countries to go because of the rising sea level. And that begins with the melting glaciers in Greenland” -- Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner
Have you seen it yet? If not, be sure to take a few minutes to unplug from your daily distractions and immerse yourself in the beauty and power of this film.
As well as Bill McKibben’s account of the trip published in the Guardian, you can also learn more about the journey and read the poem in full at riseoneislandtoanother.com, where you'll also find special clips from behind the scenes:
The Making of Rise | Ethos

“It’s important for indigenous people all around the world that people pass the mic to us, and show the world in our own words, on our own terms” -- Aka Niviâna
The Making of Rise | The Journey

As Bill McKibben says about this project: “[The] science is uncontroversial. But science alone can’t make change, because it appeals only to the hemisphere of the brain that values logic and reason. We’re also creatures of emotion, intuition, spark”
We think this spark is truly alive in this film, and it’s something special to inspire and move us in the fight to keep fossil fuels in the ground. Please share Aka and Kathy’s work and help their message to be heard in corners of the world far and wide. In their own words:
“None of us is immune And that each and everyone of us has to decide if we will Rise.”
Thelma, and all the team behind the Rise: From One Island to Another project
